Reisevorbereitungen – als Nicht-Profi habe ich dafür nie genügend Zeit. Etwa zweieinhalb Wochen vor meinem geplanten Abflug nach Singapur steht aber meine Streckenplanung zu bereits rund 80%, die Taschen sind so gut wie gepackt, Impfungen aufgefrischt und ein Visum für Kambodscha befindet sich auch schon in meinem Pass.
Es wird von Singapur aus nordwärts gehen, bis nach Bankok sogar ziemlich direkt in Richtung Norden. Und das mitten in der Saison des (hoffentlich) trockenen Nordost-Monsuns. Der Wind wird mir quasi immer ein wenig entgegen kommen. Danach will ich mich eine Weile in östlicher Richtung bewegen, bis an den breiten, gemächlich fließenden Mekong heran, um dann in Laos an diesem Strom weiter nordwärts entlang zu fahren.
Von dem mich dort erwartenden, tropischen bis subtropischen Klima habe ich bisher nur gelesen. Radreiseerfahrungen mit dem Fahrrad in feucht-schwüler Luft habe ich bisher nicht gemacht. So betrete ich ab Januar mit dieser Reise durch Südostasien mal wieder Neuland, nicht nur aufgrund des unbekannten Klimas und der Frage, wie ich mich damit arrangieren werde.
Vieles wird anders sein, als ich es bisher in Europa und Afrika während Radreisen erlebt habe. Die Länder sind dichter besiedelt, die Vegetation wird üppiger sein, die Sprachen für mich weniger verständlich. Aber ich werde erstmals auch richtig viel Zeit zur Verfügung haben, um mich über eine (zugegebener Maßen) auch sehr lange Distanz durch einen fremden Teil der Erde zu bewegen.

I never find enough time to prepare a new journey as a non-professional of travels. But about two and a half weeks ahead to my scheduled departure to Singapore, 80% of the routes that I’ll use are already fixed, the bags are almost stuffed, vaccinations are refreshed and even a visa for Cambodia is alredy attached to my passport
.From Singapore I’ll head northward, as long as to Bankok nearly always directly in the north direction. And this within the season of the (hopefully dry) Northeast Monsun. So I’ll nearly always have the wind in the face. Then I want to move in eastern direction for a while, up to the wide and slowly flowing Mekong River, to follow this river then into Laos and on its eastern banks again northward.
Till now I only could read about the tropic climate of that region. I didn’t get any experiences with such humid hot climate as a traveler by bicycle so far, so from January I’ll enter new territories, and not only because of the unknown climate and the question about how I’ll get familiar with this.
Some things will be different from what I’ve seen and experienced so far, when cycling in Europe and in Africa. The region is more dense populated, vegetation will be greener and much more lucious, but also the spoken languages will be less comprihensible for me. And even it’s a long distance that I want to cover during the next weeks, I can really spend a lot of time for my private little freedom.
